Michael D. Smith

About the Author
Michael D. Smith grew up on a 240-acre family farm in west-central Missouri. Following his passion for history, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at College of the Ozarks in Point Lookout, Missouri followed by a Master of Arts at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
Inspired by Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert, Michael started reviewing films for his college’s student-run newspaper and after returning to the Kansas City area he continued film reviewing by writing for his hometown newspaper. A few years later he took a leap forward by becoming the Arts and Entertainment Editor for Sun Publications in Overland Park, Kansas. Michael eventually went on to write for several other publications before switching gears to become a high school social studies teacher and later to work in retail management.
While still continuing a nine-generation tradition of farming, Michael is also the film editor for the Kansas City-based arts magazine KCMetropolis.org and he serves as a member of the Kansas City Film Critics Circle, a professional film critic organization established in 1966.

Reviews
"With The List, by Michael D. Smith, Mystery, Ink. has done it again. They've introduced us to a new sleuth, coroner Marv Henderson, and with him comes a new mystery in our favorite cursed town.
Marv is called to the scene of the murder of his friend, florist Annemarie Smith. He takes the loss personally, and once the police apprehend their suspect, he asks to witness the interrogation. The man they've arrested is of Hispanic descent, and he maintains his innocence, which creates a racial divide in the town. To make matters worse, the killings don't stop. Marv finds himself embroiled in the mystery, racing to find the necessary clues to stop the killer before a friend or a member of his own family ends up paying the ultimate price.
The List has everything you can want in a mystery: an engaging (if cantankerous) lead, a gripping plot, suspense, action, and a satisfying ending. I read it in one sitting. If you're looking for a quick-read, thrilling mystery, this is the book for you."
